Health for man and sea
we use marine resources mindfully, e.g. algae from sustainable aquaculture, and we protect the sea with our own research and environmental projects
In a maritime-inspirational environment, we develop and market innovative products from the sea for natural cosmetics and healthy food as a team. Protection and sustainable use of the oceans in the sense of the 2030 Agenda, in particular the Sustainable Development Goal SDG 14, are guiding goals of our work.
Intensive work in applied marine research at renowned marine research institutions and at our sister company CRM – Coastal Research & Management has led us to the conviction that we want to counter the many horror stories about marine pollution and climate change with positive examples. This was the main motivation for the development of the first algae farm in Germany.
With the success of the first harvest, it was clear: the effort for this most environmentally friendly form of aquaculture is worthwhile. If we managed to translate the health benefits of sustainably cultivated algae into a product available to all, we could use it to help communicate the value of marine ecosystems and even make a living from it. It worked – back then with four pioneers and today with 30 convinced employees.
oceanBASIS has specialized in the development of extracts from marine algae for health for more than 20 years. Our maritime natural cosmetics brand “Oceanwell” and our new delicatessen brand “Meeresgarten” benefit from this know-how. The close integration of research, development, marketing and sales allows us to meet customer requirements quickly and to a high standard of quality.
Understanding about the sea plays a central role for us. In research projects with our sister company CRM – Coastal Research & Management, medical applications as well as forms for sustainable aquaculture are also intensively investigated. It is both a pleasure and a competitive advantage to be able to carry out our knowledge-generated developments in close cooperation with universities and research institutions.
As the source of our developments, we consider marine life: its organisms, their behavior, molecules and mechanisms. Inspired by this, we create added “ocean value” for our customers and our employees through marine conservation, research and bioactive ingredients.
Not everyone at oceanBASIS does everything, but no one does just one job. We have different teams depending on talent, knowledge and motivation:
Theresa Talg (cosmetics), Susanne Woldmann (actives, food), Diana Woldmann (food), Levent Piker (actives, biotech), Inez Linke (cosmetics)
